E-Bike Policy
We want to work on every bike that we can ensure will be safe to ride when leaving our shop. Unfortunately, there are some E-bikes that do not meet that standard and that we can’t work on. There are also additional costs to working on and storing E-bikes.
We reserve the right to only work on E-bikes as we choose.
Our policy is to work on non-throttle bikes unless we believe them to have dangerous components. Dangerous components are things such as brakes that are not likely to manage stopping the combined weight of the rider and the bike at 20mph. This is the most common E-bike failing, but we have also seen every part of an E-bike not suitable for its intended purpose. We generally do not work on category 2 E-bikes that are called E-bikes but are actually motor scooters or motorcycles. These are machines that can run on machine power only, with no necessary pedaling.
We do not work on E-Scooters.
In order to cover the extra costs of working on an E-bike, there is a separate E-bike menu with prices that reflect additional labor and time.
Any individual E-bike charges that differ from our regular pedal bike rates will be advised to the customer when a bike is taken in for service.
All E-bike batteries will be kept by the E-bike owner unless said batteries meet the latest UL E-bike battery specifications and are completely discharged. In general, E-bike owners should expect to take their batteries home rather than leaving them at the shop.
As we have to keep E-bikes upstairs where space is limited, rather than with other bikes in our basement, we charge $25 per day for every day the E-bike is not picked up, starting with the second day after the service is completed.
